NetGalley reviewer Olga Medved writes: This book has two real standout categories: character complexity and fight scenes. The fights will impress even a non-fantasy fan. The characters impress, as they start out very one-dimensional, but fill out smoothly over the course of the book. A particular standout is Sam, who seems early on to be a heavy-hitting, impenetrable character, but her essential weakness is revealed before the reader can form a firm opinion. Tom Early has hit the mark, presenting a novel which expands the traditional boundaries of the fantasy genre.
